Consultations

I am currently available to offer coaching and editing services to writers of all levels, whether you’re on the last draft of a novel, working on a college essay, or have been thinking about writing your life story but don’t know where to start!

Wherever you are on your writing journey, I am here to help you connect with the characters, drama, and emotion in the story only you can tell.

As an editor, I provide a close reading of all work, focusing on character development, stakes, dialogue, pacing and point of view. Together we will take concrete steps to make each more convincing, compelling, and sharp.

In addition to my own experience as an award-winning author, I draw on my experience teaching in the Creative Writing Program at San Francisco State University. I have also taught creative writing workshops to YA at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin. Whatever your skill level, if you have a passion for writing and want sentence-level feedback with big picture insight, I want to work with you.

Above all, I am here to encourage you to keep on keeping on. You are the only person in the world that can tell the story you will write. The story is worth telling, and worth the work. Let’s take those first important steps, together.

Testimonials:

“Loria is attentive to every detail on the page. She helped me connect the dots so that the vague notion I had of the big picture became powerfully clear in a matter of weeks. She is a wonderful writing coach who gave helpful, yet kind, criticism. I’m lucky to have found someone so knowledgeable and affordable.”    —J.L.

“I loved the attention Loria gave my manuscript. Unlike past writing coaches I’ve had, she was encouraging throughout the entire process. After each consultation, I was excited to get right back to my desk and write more. A few years ago, another coach turned me off sharing work entirely. It seemed he didn’t respect my time or my work, but Loria’s approach is more like having a relaxed conversation with your novel’s best friend. The rates she gives are reasonable, and the thoughtful feedback she gives is priceless.”     —D.P.

If interested, please let me know a little bit about yourself here. I offer single as well as group rates on a sliding scale.
